In-Depth Information
installation should have a terminal server connected to the serial port.
While the serial port on both primary and redundant XSCF is active on
the M8000/M9000, only the active XSCF has full platform management
capability.
Ethernet. Ethernet communication can be done via Telnet or SSH, but
the preferred method is SSH. Because both access protocols are disabled
by default, only one should be enabled. Every XSCF has two Ethernet
ports, allowing the XSCF to be accessed from different subnets. Full plat-
form management is available only via Ethernet on the primary XSCF.
Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Browser User Interface (BUI). If enabled, every XSCF has a small se-
cure HTTP server, allowing the M-Series platform to be managed through
a browser, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari. Aside from a few
CLI-only commands, almost every aspect of the platform can be managed
through the BUI. This is the preferred method for remote management.
Sun Management Center. Every XSCF runs the Sun MC 4.0 platform
agent. This agent requires an active Sun MC 4.0 server. The Sun MC in-
terface can either be a Java GUI or be accessed through a browser. This
interface gives access to most of the same capabilities as the direct BUI.
Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center. Ops Center provides domain
creation and configuration, as well as Dynamic Reconfiguration. Ops
Center has full Oracle Solaris provisioning support for installation and
patching in all domains. A separate add-on package can be used to con-
nect the messages and error report from Ops Center to Oracle Enterprise
Manager.
SNMP
All M-Series servers support SNMP for basic platform monitoring.
2.3.1 Building Domains Examples
The CLI interface on the XSCF is used in all of the following examples. The first
step is determining which resources are available.
XSCF> showhardconf -u
