Note
When talking about X, Y, and Z, use the plural term “axes.” The singu-
lar term is “axis.” So, the extruder moves back and forth on the X axis
but also can move in any direction using three axes.
You may be wondering just how the xyz graph relates to a 3D printer. It's now
time to show you one example of a 3D printer. Don't worry if it looks strange or
if you can't figure out how it works; that will soon become apparent. What I want
you to focus on are the three directions that the extruder can move. Everything is
labeled in Figure 1.9 .
