or worse, by inclining the guides after driving has started, the pile may be over-
stressed in torsion or bending. The resultant pile damage may not be apparent at
the surface. Slight out-of-verticality rarely affects the pile performance, and a small
deviation from a specified pile location can often be tolerated. A positional tol-
erance of 75mm and a maximum of 1 in 75 on axial line for vertical piles are
typically specified figures. A deviation from line of 1 in 25 is generally allowed
for raking piles. These tolerances accord with those given in the ICE Specifica-
tion for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls (2007). A check calculation should
