In-Depth Information
In common use are the double hole sonic test, the seismic (sonic echo) test and the
dynamic reponse test. The first of these requires tubes to be installed in the pile, and
is considerably more costly than the other two, which are carried out from the pile
head and require little preparation. Although tests carried out from the pile head do
not quantify features within a pile which repeat with depth, such features may only
be of academic interest if, for example, discontinuity is present at a high level.
A summary of the methods and the considerations discussed is given in Table 8.1,
which also gives an indication of relative costs.
