predicted by elastic analysis in piles at the edges and corners of the pile group. Here,
the analysis was repeated allowing redistribution of load away from the highly loaded
piles, imposing a notional design limit of 22 MN on the axial 'capacity' of any pile.
The load distributions for this non-linear analysis are shown in Figure 5.18. For each
load case, only 4 piles remain with axial loads less than the imposed limit of 22 MN,
suggesting that the pile group is close to failure in the sense of no longer being able to
find a load distribution in equilibrium with the applied loading.
