STRAWBERRY SPINACH
Chenopodium foliosum
The catchy name of this chenopod comes from its round, strawberry-like fruits. While the berries do
not have much to offer in the way of flavor, they are edible and make excellent garnishes. This flashy
plant is also choice as an ornamental in the garden or as a container plant. The leaves of strawberry
spinach can be used like spinach, raw or cooked; they are triangular, much smaller than those of spin-
ach, and must be individually plucked. The young rosettes can be harvested in the spring. In straw-
berry spinach, fruits are mixed with leaves; in its close relative, strawberry blite ( Chenopodium capit-
atum ), fruits and leaves are found on separate areas of the stem.
