for the full red shiner dataset (1983-2001) is equivalent to a half-life of 3.4 years for
toxaphene in the watershed.
Mussel tissue data from Newport Bay for the period 1980 through 2000 do not
show any statistically signifi cant trends in wet weight toxaphene concentrations
over time (Fig. 31 ). However, toxaphene concentrations in 84 out of the 111
samples (76%) collected over the 21-year period were below analytical detection
limits, and the frequency of non-detect results was consistent over time. Nondetect
samples were not plotted in Fig. 31 .
