people include the increased risk of other high-magnitude events such as debris flows
and landslides (Jomelli et al. 2004); accelerated erosion from increased glacial runoff
(Mark et al. 2010); changes in agricultural patterns (Chhetri et al. 2010); depletion of
glacier-fed rivers for power, agriculture, and drinking water (Mote et al. 2003; Kalten-
born et al. 2010); increases in conflicts over diminishing water supplies for irrigation
(Rhoades 2006); negative impacts on mountain tourism (Godde et al. 2000); and even
an increase in infectious diseases previously confined to the lowlands (Beniston 2003),
also fall within the realm of current speculation, documentation, and discussion.
