In-Depth Information
From a social related perspective, the interior prosthesis should be adopted to the
body, providing a natural appearance and human-like perception abilities as for
example compared to the system device shown in Fig. 7.9.
The gustatory sense is specifically vulnerable since a safe solution must be
considered to be able, in real time, to measure and in attaching the object outside
the body, i.e., in this case outside the mouth cavity. There may be an attractive
solution, where the gustatory device is placed in a feasible solution by constitut-
ing a cavity of sensing ability and a first response appears before the object, e.g.,
the liquid, enters the mouth. A prototype device can, with advantage be imple-
mented in an ordinary drinking glass device, as shown in Fig. 7.9. The prototype
has been realised as the functionality of a perceptual prosthesis device and its per-
formance is verified as an effective complement to the human gustatory perceptual
sensation.
The technology improvements will exhibit an ongoing procedure where new
and emerging solutions are foreseen to be pushed towards the individual's needs
