In-Depth Information
attributes of each glyph. Also other attributes may be of interest to present from a
process, like for example an object's motion, surface texture and orientation.
The goal of the information provided is to continuously communicate, by
illustrating each sensor/control system in a sub-process behaviour and the impact
of their relationship and influence to the total process. This approach allows the
operator to be able to adjust, correlate or modify each sub-process in order to get
the most optimised process performance. The operator may immediately after
each change on the sub-process level also directly be able to observe the overall
process response. This exemplifies a system that makes use of the operator in the
control loop as a natural interaction and illustrates a degree of symbiosis between
human and system.
The communication of a process status has in this case been modified to adapt
with the operator's ability to act in the loop of interaction. The given mathematical
mode implies that all sub-processes are represented in one presentation, as well as
including the presentation of the complete process behaviour. This strengthens the
cognitive view, indicating the relationship to separate sub-processes and also the
effect of the complete process when adjusting one single as well as may parameter.
The glyph presentation in this example is built upon the view of a cylindrical
co-ordinate system, where information about each separate sub-process, as well
as the whole process space can be visualised in one single virtual representation.
The glyph representation of the whole process space as a transparent ellipsoid is
the origin of the cylindrical co-ordinate system and the glyphs representing each
sub-process as transparent spheres are placed with equal angles around the origin,
