extensive environmental picture. The overall goal in using an artificial percep-
tion system, is a challenge that probably will bring out the need for human-like
structures of the more or less rough information flow provided by the system.
The resulting depicted picture describes a small replica of the real spot of inter-
est. Figure 5.12 illustrates a modification, from the proposed artificial perception
model in Fig. 5.10, where the aim of a perceptual system is further considered to
be an instant picture of the spotted measuring volume in combination with the
degree of measured satisfaction. The model is actually identifying the aim in in-
formation flow in the system operational principle and thus can be defined as a
goal oriented model for both active (dotted) and passive (bold) interface structure,
as seen in Fig. 5.12.
5.3.2 The Time Aspect
One major insight when investigating the performance of an artificial sensor sys-
tem is the timing between acquired data and procedures that will provide the
