Complementary solutions in development include projected structured
lighting, laser illumination/bandpass filtering, and specialized illumination
techniques.
An excellent example of optical 3-D measurement of surface deforma-
tion is the ARAMIS system produced by the Gesellschaft für Optische
Messtechnik, GOM mbh (see Figure 6.17). Following is an excerpt from the
GOM literature, illustrating the range of optical measurement capability for
the 3-D software suite.
ARAMIS helps to better understand material and component behavior
and is ideally suited to monitor experiments with high temporal and local
resolution.
ARAMIS is a noncontact and material-independent measuring system
providing, for static or dynamically loaded test objects, accurate
• 3-D surface coordinates
• 3-D displacements and velocities
• Surface strain values (major and minor strain, thickness reduction)
• Strain rates
