revealed as mediator of tissue regeneration, especially regeneration
ofbone.However,fewreportshavebeenmadeaboutdirectinjection
of CB stem cells and BMP-2 at the distraction osteogenesis site of
bone.WedesignedastudytoevaluatetheeffectofCB-derivedMSCs
(CB-MSCs) and BMP-2 on the healing of a rat model of distraction
osteogenesis.
Nine-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250 300 g
were used. A small bilateral external fixator was applied to the right
tibia of the rats (Fig. 43. 7) . After 7 days, the lengthening of the
tibia started at the rate of 0.25 mm per 12 hours for 10 days (total
5 mm lengthening). The rats were divided into control group (15
rats) and a CB-MSC-injected group (30 rats) at the end of the 5 mm
distraction. The CB-MSC (Medipost, Seoul, Korea) group was also
dividedintoanonlyCB-MSCgroupandanosteogenicallyprimedCB-
