hydrogel. To achieve these objectives, a cytocompatible water-
soluble MPC polymer containing p-vinylphenylboronic acid (VPBA)
units, that is, poly(MPC-co-BMA-co-VPBA) (PMBV) was synthesized
(Fig. 19.10).
The water-soluble PMBV was used to make a hydrogel with PVA.
When the aqueous polymer solutions contained PMBV and PVA, a
hydrogel was formed within a short period after gentle shaking at
room temperature. The hydrogel made from PMBV and PVA is also
reversibly dissociated by the addition ofglucose into the system.
