Figure 9.6 shows how cone cells, eye cells that detect color, respond to different wavelengths of
light. The solid line shows the firing frequency of cones that detect red light. The dashed line shows cone
cells that detect green light. The dotted line shows cone cells that detect blue light. Note that each type
of cell has a background firing frequency but they will respond most strongly, i.e., increased firing rate)
in response to a small range of wavelengths.
