neural simulations. Both allow for stand-alone simulations on a single CPU or massively parallel sim-
ulations on supercomputers. Both have graphical user interfaces that show neural geometry, recording,
and stimulating electrodes and built in functions for viewing the time courses of voltages, currents, and
concentrations. To simulate artificial neural networks, MATLAB has a Neural Network tool box that
contains many optimized functions for building, simulating visualizing, and analyzing neural networks.
