Java Reference
In-Depth Information
Having the Java™ 2 SDK documentation installed locally may be useful; however, it is not
required, as the same pages may be accessed over the Web from Sun Microsystems. The documentation
is a series of hypertext documents which may require access to the Web even when accessing a local
copy, as some links will refer to pages on Sun Microsystems's Web site.
Installing TextPad
TextPad can be obtained by downloading the required software from Helios Software Solutions at
textpad.com or from the CD-ROM that accompanies this text. The following steps show how to install
TextPad from the CD-ROM to a location on your hard drive (C:). If necessary, substitute the location
with one specified by your instructor. You should install the Java™ 2 SDK before installing TextPad, as
this will allow TextPad to configure itself automatically for compiling and executing Java programs.
To Install TextPad
1. If necessary, insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. When the Course Technology dialog
box is displayed, click Software. When the software files are displayed, click TextPad 4.7.3
Evaluation and then click the Install button.
The InstallShield Wizard dialog box is displayed when the install is ready to begin (Figure B-11).
