Start your browser and visit scsite.com/java3e/learn. Follow the instructions in
the exercises below.
1. Chapter Reinforcement TF, MC, and SA Click the Chapter Reinforcement
link below Chapter 1. Print and then answer the True/False, Multiple Choice,
and Short Answer questions.
2. Practice Test Click the Practice Test link below Chapter 1. Answer each
question, enter your first and last name at the bottom of the page, and then
click the Grade Test button. When the graded practice test displays on your
screen, click Print on the File menu to print a hard copy. Continue to take
practice tests until you score 80% or better. Hand in a printout of the final
practice test.
3. Crossword Puzzle Challenge Click the Crossword Puzzle Challenge link
below Chapter 1. Read the instructions, and then enter your first and last
name. Click the Play button. Complete the crossword puzzle. When you are
finished, click the Submit button. When the crossword puzzle redisplays,

click the information and then click Print on the shortcut menu. Construct a
brief example of what the information relates to in Java to confirm that you
understand how to use the tip or trick. Hand in the example and printed
information.

pertains to Chapter 1. Print three comments.
6. Expanding Your Horizons Click the Expanding Your Horizons link below
Chapter 1. Click a topic that pertains to Chapter 1. Print the information.
Construct a brief example of what the information relates to in Java to con-
firm that you understand the contents of the article. Hand in the example
and printed information.
7. Search Sleuth Select three key terms from the Key Terms section of this
chapter and then use the Google search engine at google.com (or any major
search engine) to display and print two Web pages for each key term.

1 Using Object Terminology
You are a teller at a bank. A customer has come in asking to open a savings
account — just one of the many kinds of accounts that you handle. After deter-
mining that the customer wants a passbook savings rather than a certificate of
deposit, you remind the customer that all accounts are FDIC insured. You assign
a unique account number and accept the customer's initial deposit. You explain
that while all accounts earn some form of interest, this specific savings account is
compounded quarterly. The interest will appear automatically on the monthly
statement. The customer now can deposit and withdraw from the account.
