In-Depth Information
These are just representative questions. Visio rules are sufficiently flexible that the real question
becomes, “What problem do you need to solve?”
Unfortunately, editing or creating your own rules is not easy because the Visio UI does not include
any features for that purpose. However, long-time Visio MVP David Parker has written a book on the
subject called Microsoft Visio 2010: Business Process Diagramming and Validation (Packt Publishing,
2010), and he offers a free software download called Rules Tools that fills the gap.
More Info Information about David Parker's book and the download links for his Rules
Tools add-in are located at http://www.visiorules.com .
When you install David's Rules Tools, an additional group of buttons appears on the Process tab on
the ribbon, as shown in Figure 9-9.

More Info You can read Scott Helmers' review of David's book at http://bit.ly/Am7Hvk .
After you have created your own rules, you can attach them to any diagram. Figure 9-10 shows the
list of rules to check for a diagram that contains the built-in Flowchart rules plus a custom rule set.
