In-Depth Information
In Figure 9-7, the image on the left shows a user changing shape data for the printer in the
Chicago conference room. The image on the right shows a different user running Visio on another
computer; in this copy of Visio, the printer in the Chicago conference room displays the “No” symbol
(a red circle with a backslash in it) in the upper right of the shape, and pop-up text warns that the
shape is being edited by another user.

Tip Although you can save a macro-enabled Visio diagram (.vsdm) to SharePoint and open
it with a web browser, multiple users cannot work on the diagram simultaneously. You must
save the document as a .vsdx file to enable coauthoring or commenting.
Validating diagrams
There is very little point in sharing or publishing a business diagram unless you're reasonably certain
that it's correct. The Visio 2013 templates for flowcharts, swimlane diagrams, BPMN, and SharePoint
Workflow diagrams all include rule sets that you can use to validate connectivity and other aspects
of a diagram. Validating drawings based on these four templates is as easy as clicking the Check Dia-
gram button located on the Process tab on the ribbon.
Figure 9-8 shows the Check Diagram button along with the Issues window that appears when a
diagram contains errors. The flowchart shown in the figure is missing several shapes and it contains
other errors, as well. Clicking any violation in the Issues window highlights the offending shapes, when
appropriate.
