Important External data sources must reside in the same domain as the SharePoint Server
2013 farm, or authentication will fail. For more information about planning for external
data sources, see “Planning considerations for services that access external data sources” at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc560988.aspx#ConsiderationsForAccessingExtern
alData .
Tip Select your authentication method before you type in the server and specify the
database.
You must have a data source before you can create PerformancePoint content.
Although the procedure begins on the Create tab, you can also create a PerformancePoint data
source from the Data Connections library on the Documents tab. Either way, Dashboard Designer
and the Select A Data Source Template open so that you can create the data source.
In Dashboard Designer, in the Workspace Browser pane, right-click Data Connections
and then, on the shortcut menu that appears, click New Data Source, as demonstrated in
Figure 8-18.
