On the Central Administration page, in the Application Management section, click the Manage
Service Applications link.

The Service Applications page is the one on which you can manage your service applications.
Each service application generally has both a service application and a service application
proxy.

With some service applications, you can manage the proxy separate from the service application
itself. Excel Services does not. All of the Excel Services management is done from the Service Applica-
tion page. There is no need to attempt to manage the proxy separately.

Some service applications also support running multiple instances of the service application in the
farm. Excel Services is designed to have a single Excel Services application running in the farm. This
is because Excel Services only supports working with the default Excel Services proxy of the default
proxy group. There are scenarios in which you can have multiple groups defined per web application,
but they are beyond the scope of this topic. And, for most enterprise deployments, a single Excel
Services application is sufficient.

In Figure 6-3, for example, the Excel Services Application Web Service is named ECS Min-Priv. To
get to the Excel Services administration page, simply click it.

Figure 6-4 shows the page on which you can configure and manage the major components of
Excel Services. Separate pages exist for each set of administrative tasks. Again, things should be gen-
erally working for most basic scenarios in a default installation.
