Harvesting:
Onions are ready to harvest when the tops start to become yellow and brown. At this stage
you can encourage the process by folding over the stems. After a few days carefully lift
the onions and lay on the surface of the ground to dry out. Do this before the really cool
weather arrives as the mature onion may spoil in bad weather.
Allow to dry for 2-3 weeks before considering storing them. This can be done by leaving
them on the dry ground, or in bad weather lay them out on a table-top indoors.
When the plants stems have dried out they are best braided together and hung up in a cool
dry place, for use throughout the winter months.
