About Planting Zones:
When it comes down to timing the planting of your seeds or seedlings, this very much de-
pends on where you live as times and seasons of course vary widely even within the United
States itself.
For this reason it is impossible to give exact months for planting in the following list of
plants, so instead I have erred on the side of vagueness, and trust in your own local know-
ledge as to the correct planting time according to which zone you reside in.
With that in mind I have included two Plant Hardiness zone maps - one for the US and one
for the UK - that may help you decide which plants may thrive and which will not. The fact
is though that there is no substitute for local knowledge, and I would encourage you to seek
out information from your local sources such as garden centres, keen gardeners or the inter-
net, as to which vegetables will thrive where you live.
I will point out however that these zone maps do not take into consideration the extremes
of summer weather, humidity, days of frost or length of days - each of which may have a
profound bearing on the vegetables you are seeking to grow.
