In-Depth Information
The picture above is a typical cane and string trellis work that will support many climbing
plants such as beans, peas and tomato plants.
For plants that bear heavier fruits such as marrow, zucchini cucumber etc; then you have
to increase the load-bearing capacity - which basically just means using heavier string and
supports.
Another option is to use heavy farmers 4 inch mesh or other wire fencing products, to form
acage that will support many different plants. This wire is simply turned into shape andtied
with thinner wire to prevent springing. Cut in such a way as to leave protruding wire at the
end so that you can easily secure the cage into the soil.
These cages in turn are usually self-supporting but can be easily held in place by 1 or 2
canes. In this example above you will also see an example of an irrigation system simply
formed using plumber's pipe and drip feeders. There are many irrigation systems available
commercially to choose from.
