Top Tips:
• Save growing space in yourSFG bygrowing Companion plants forinsect
control such as Marigolds or Nasturtiums in containers placed around
your SFG instead of within the growing area itself.
• A small 'fence' two feet high and covered with gardeners fleece will pro-
tect your carrots from the dreaded carrot fly.
• Plan out your herbs to compliment the vegetables in the squares, Chives
forinstancekeeptheflyoffyourcarrotsandBasillovesbeans,carrotsand
tomatoes.
• Keep a plan of your SFG planting to be sure you do not repeat yourself
the next season. Excel is excellent for this purpose if you can use it.
• Getthekidsinvolved!Thisisagreatwaytointroduce children togarden-
ing as the size of the area does not overwhelm them, and things like
pulling weeds is easy for them in the loose soil.
• Cover seedlings with gardeners fleece for the first few days to harden
them off when transplanting outside.
