Pretty, spacious, individually styled rooms near the train station. Though no palace, in
spite of the name, the venerable wooden building is one of Kiruna's oldest, dating to 1904.
The decadent breakfast includes cured salmon and roast game.

Don't let the plastic tablecloths fool you - this informal joint cooks up excellent Thai
dishes, though if you want authentic spice levels, ask them to kick it up a notch. We partic-
ularly love one of the specialities: the sour and spicy glass noodles.

A long, skinny cafe serving treacle-thick coffee, outstanding cakes (try the pecan pie),
scrummy sandwiches, quiche and baked potatoes.

The unusually veggie-heavy lunch buffet is good value, but the real draw is the Sami-in-
spired à la carte menu featuring local, seasonal produce. We're drooling at the very thought
of the reindeer steak with bacon and lingonberry sauce, pulled elk with BBQ sauce and
rhubarb with licorice meringue. The restaurant's located at the local campground (of all
places!).
