In-Depth Information
oriented, and even if you don't descend into the subterranean gloom, a visit to Malmberget
casts a melancholy spell: many of its houses have been abandoned in anticipation of their
imminent destruction.
The strong Sami presence in Gällivare is reflected in its monuments. The bronze statue
in the park next to the church, by local sculptor Berto Marklund, is called Tre seitar ( seite
being a Sami god of nature) and symbolises the pre-Christian Sami religion.
