Curious minds of all ages will love the gigantic educational playground that is Teknikens
Hus, within the university campus 4km north of town. The museum has hands-on exhibi-
tions about everything from hot-air balloons and rocket launching to the aurora borealis.
Take bus 4 or 5 to Universitetsentrén.

The only budget digs in central Luleå don't come more anonymous than this: book online
to get the door code, since there's no reception, then let yourself into a featureless room
with two-tiered beds. There are no windows but reasonably good in-room ventilation and a
large guest kitchen.

One of Luleå's most sumptuous hotels, the grand Elite is more than a hundred years old,
with classically decorated and beautifully refurbished rooms. All bathrooms are decked
out in Italian marble and the plusher suites come with whirlpool tubs as well. Bargains are
to be had on weekends and the breakfast buffet is extensive.

This quirky hotel has individually designed rooms and corridors decorated to look like av-
enues and shopping streets (hence the name). Reception has limited opening hours, so
