In-Depth Information
Unsurprisingly, hiking is the main draw here, particularly the main multiday hike south
to Tänndalen that passes by Sweden's southernmost glacier on the flank of Mt Helagsfjäl-
let.
Storvallens Fjällgården ( 0647-700 58; www.storliensfjallgard.se ; Vackerlidsvägen 9; dm/
s/d Skr180/390/400) , just off the E14 about 4.5km east of Storlien, in Storvalen, provides
hikers with top-quality accommodation in the form of comfortable dorms and rooms with
warm, wood-panelled common areas, guest kitchens, sauna and good hiking advice.
Besides the huge breakfast spread, the restaurant fattens you up with steak, club sand-
wiches and hearty fish soup.
From Storlien, trains run east to Åre (Skr125, 45 minutes, two daily) and west to Trond-
heim, Norway (Skr135, 1½ hours, two daily).

area are popular with hikers, skiers and other outdoor-sports enthusiasts. Beyond Funäs-
dalen, Rte 84 leads uphill to diminutive Tänndalen, an even better destination for hikers,
while the highest road in Sweden leads north to beautiful Ljungdalen village, surrounded
by mountains.
