Major renovations in 2014 have added another floor to this elegant central hotel, which is
now under the Best Western umbrella. Rooms are spacious and modern, plus there's sauna,
hot tub and gym. The breakfast buffet is particularly lavish.

Housed in a magnificent building, this former prison (until 2007) has a lingering institu-
tional feel, with rooms in the cells (with bars still on the windows). Space is tight, even in
the doubles, where the bathrooms are similarly cellsize. The quirkiness continues with the
on-site craft brewery - you can taste the results in the bar.
Eating & Drinking
Västervik's fast-food speciality is French fries, mashed potato and shrimp salad (Skr25);
look out for it at stands along the waterside.
Waterside Fiskaretorget is a hive of activity, studded with several restaurant-bars that
have popular summer terraces.

A bar, a deli, a restaurant and a waterfront terrace with one of the best views of Väster-
vik…OK, the interior is a bit of a dated decor disaster, but the food, ranging from Thai
curry to Swedish meatballs, is well prepared and tasty. The lunch is a good deal, too, and
includes salad and coffee.
