KULTURKORT
If you are planning on visiting Helsingborg's main sights, consider investing Skr120 in a
Kulturkort ( www.mittkulturkort.se ) , which can save you close to Skr200 in admission
costs over two days. Purchase at the tourist office.
Town Centre
Small and specialist museums (about the fire brigade, medical history, sport, schools and
military defence) dot the town; contact the tourist office for details.
Dunkers Kulturhus MUSEUM
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.dunkerskulturhus.se ; Kungsgatan 11; exhibitions adult/child Skr75/free;
10am-6pm Mon-Fri, to 8pm Thu, to 5pm Sat & Sun)
Just north of the transport terminal, the crisp white Dunkers Kulturhus houses the main
tourist office, an interesting town museum and temporary exhibitions (admission includes
entry to both), plus a concert hall, an urbane cafe and a design-savvy gift shop. The build-
ing's creator, Danish architect Kim Utzon, is the son of Sydney Opera House architect Jørn
Utzon.
From here, saunter along Norra Hamnen (North Harbour), where apartments, restaur-
ants and bars meet yachts and preened locals in one rather successful harbour-redevelop-
ment project.
Kärnan
RUIN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; adult/child Skr40/20; 10am-6pm Jun-Aug, closed Mon rest of year)
Dramatic steps and archways lead up from Stortorget to the square tower Kärnan (34m),
all that remains of the medieval castle. The castle became Swedish property during the
17th-century Danish-Swedish War, and was mostly demolished once the fighting stopped.
The tower was restored from dereliction in 1894, and the view is regal indeed. There are
plans to mount a permanent exhibition about the history of the castle.
