On the Unesco World Heritage list, Grimeton Radio Station lies about 10km east of
Varberg. Once part of the interwar transatlantic communication network, it's now the
world's only surviving long-wave radio station. Two English-language
tours
at 1pm and
3pm in June, July and August initiate you into its mysteries.

After you've finished sunbathing next to all the bronzed Nordic bodies at Kallbadhuset, a
Moorish-style outdoor bathhouse on stilts above the sea just north of the fort, have a dip in
the bracing waters. The sunbathing areas (nudity is the norm) are divided into male and fe-
male sections, with steps leading down into the water (facing away from the beach).

A few minutes' walk north from the train station, these guys cater to all your surfing, kite-
surfing, windsurfing and paddleboarding needs with equipment rental and watersports
courses. Two hours of paddleboarding instruction costs Skr 400, while an eight-hour intro-
duction to kitesurfing will set you back Skr2000.

Apelviken, 2km south of Varberg, is Sweden's best spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
