In-Depth Information
lage of Ellös. It's located in an old farmhouse and surrounding little cottages in a blissfully
bucolic setting, with good walking, swimming and canoeing nearby. The restaurant serves
a nightly tapas buffet (Skr245) in peak season, and there's also a hot tub.
Mollösund
Supercute Mollösund, in the island's southwest, is the oldest fishing village on the Bo-
huslän Coast. There's a picture-perfect harbour and several scenic walking paths for a
gentle pick-me-up.
Emma's Café, Grill & Vinbar ( 0304-211 75; www.cafeemma.com ; Hamnvägen 4; lunches
Skr59-185, dinner mains Skr139-215; restaurant 11am-midnight Jun-mid-Aug) , another Bohuslän
establishment co-owned by Göteborg chef Mats Nordström, is the red house right on the
harbour with a small, welcoming hostel (doubles from Skr950). The cosy cafe-restaurant
serves hearty dishes created from local (mostly fishy) and organic ingredients - anything
from open shrimp sandwiches to exceptional fish soup.
Mollösunds Wärdshus ( 0304-211 08; www.mwhus.se ; Kyrkvägen 9; d from Skr1295;
Easter-Dec; ) is an upmarket 19th-century inn featuring 10 well-turned-out rooms (avail-
able from Easter to December) with funky wallpaper, and a slinky, sun-soaked terrace for
lazy wining and dining on local fish and seafood. Enquire here about island-hopping,
adrenalin-pumping RIB boat tours, and ask staff to fire up the hot tub for extra pampering.
Bus 975 runs to Henån on weekdays at 7.30am, while bus 372 connects Mollösund to
the small town of Varekil (Monday to Friday only). The Orustexpressen bus runs several
times on weekdays direct from Göteborg to Henån; otherwise change in Stenungsund or
Lysekil.
Lysekil & Around
0523 / Pop 14,521
With its air of faded grandeur, the 19th-century spa resort of Lysekil feels oddly like an
English seaside town. It pampers summer visitors less than other Bohuslän towns do, but
there's something strangely refreshing about this unfussed attitude.
