Friendly, 10-room Svea puts the emphasis on its personal service. Rooms are old-fash-
ioned, with shared bathrooms, but it's clean and comfortable - and exceptionally handy for
the train and bus stations.

This restaurant, inside the rustic 18th-century wooden courtyard of Norrmanska Gården,
has a great outdoor patio and includes a cute pub. On the menu you'll find everything from
burgers and pasta to shrimp salad. It's a popular evening spot, too, with a decent happy-
hour menu.

The tourist office ( 0224-552 02; www.sala.se/turism ; Stora Torget; 8am-5pm Mon-Fri year-
round, plus 10am-2pm Sat May-Sep) inside the town hall faces the main square; it doesn't al-
ways stick to posted hours, but brochures are also available at the library ( 0224-555 01;
Norra Esplanaden 5; 9.30am-7pm Mon-Thu, 9.30am-6pm Fri, 11am-3pm Sat) . Internet access is
available at both the tourist office and library. The free town map is useful if you want to
use the walking paths.
Getting There & Around
Going to or from Uppsala, take regional bus 848 (Skr80 to Skr120, 1¼ hours, hourly). Re-
gional trains go every two hours from Stockholm (Skr100, 30 to 90 minutes).
Ask about bike hire at the tourist office.
