In-Depth Information
( 08-54 24 62 12; www.finnhamn.se ; dm/s/d Skr320/520/640; year-round; )
This hostel in a large wooden villa has a killer view ('Utsikten' means 'view'), tiny rooms
and cheerful staff who go above and beyond. It's an old building, which means no lift and
no soundproofing; if crowded it can get noisy. But it's fun and lively and an excellent base
for exploring the island. Advance booking is essential.
The hostel is about 1km along a rough dirt track, well signposted from the harbour. It
also has four-bed 'sea cabins' available just outside the hostel (from Skr1095). Campsites
nearby cost Skr120 per night. Breakfast is available at the hostel for Skr90. And you can
rent kayaks and rowboats - ask at reception about availability.
Finnhamns Café & Krog
SWEDISH

11am-9pm
Jun-Aug, weekends only rest of year)
It may be the only game in town, but Finnhamns Krog doesn't use that as an excuse for
slacking. The kitchen and service are top notch: classy yet comfortable, and capable of
transforming seafood into gold. Try the Finnhamns tallrik (Skr185), with several kinds of
local fish, potatoes and all the fixin's. Sustainable ingredients are a priority. Reservations
recommended for dinner.
There's also a rooftop bar here in summer, with live music weekend nights and a good
selection of Swedish beers.
Getting There & Away
Waxholmsbolaget - Strömkajen to Finnhamn via Vaxholm (Skr130, three hours), three
times daily in summer (twice on Saturday).
Strömma Kanalbolaget - Strandvägen to Finnhamn (Skr165, two hours 10 minutes), twice
daily May to September, with reduced services mid-April to early May.
Siaröfortet
The tiny island of Kyrkogårdsön, in the important sea lane just north of Ljusterö (40km
due northeast of Stockholm), is one of the archipelago's most fascinating islands, and easy
to visit on a day trip.
