Famous for making the desserts served at the Nobel Prize banquet, Xoko looks like a jew-
ellery store, with row after row of gorgeous-looking edible gems on display. The cakes,
sweets and truffles are crazy inventive, but you can also get outstanding versions of more
humble and traditional fare - simple breads, sandwiches and cinnamon buns. Staff are en-
tertaining and helpful.
La Neta
MEXICAN

Competition for the title of 'Stockholm's Best Taqueria' is not fierce, but La Neta wins
hands down. Fast-food pseudo-Mexican eateries are all over town, but this is the real deal,
with homemade corn tortillas, nuanced flavors, and zero frills in the dining area (unless
you count the bowls of delicious salsa). It's great value for money.
The kitchen is bigger than the dining area, and there's a perpetual line halfway around
the block from the minute the place opens. Cheap beer and soda is available, and the daily
specials are worth trying.
Sturekatten CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 08-611 16 12; www.sturekatten.se ; Riddargatan 4; pastries from Skr35;
9am-7pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm Sat, 11am-6pm Sun; Östermalmstorg)
Looking like a life-size doll's house, this vintage cafe is a fetching blend of antique chairs,
oil paintings, ladies who lunch and waitresses in black-and-white garb. Slip into a salon
chair, pour some tea and nibble on a piece of apple pie or a kanelbulle (cinnamon bun).
Vetekatten CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.vetekatten.se ; Kungsgatan 55; pastries from Skr25, salads Skr65-100;
7.30am-7:30pm Mon-Fri, 9.30am-5pm Sat & Sun; Hötorget)
A cardamom-scented labyrinth of cosy nooks, antique furnishings and oil paintings,
Vetekatten is not so much a cafe as an institution. Wish back the old days over filling sand-
wiches, heavenly scrolls and warming cups of tea.
