In-Depth Information
Ladugårdsgärdet
This wide-open, parklike area is a former military training ground. From the small pink
pavilion on the hillside, Borgen, the royalty could enjoy leisurely banquets while watching
the troops perform their exercises. It hasn't been used as a training ground since the 1860s;
these days the smooth fields of Ladugårdsgärdet are popular for strolls and trail runs, vol-
leyball games, football matches and hot-air-balloon rides. Reached by bus 69 from Cent-
ralstationen or Sergels Torg, the area boasts three fine museums, an art gallery and one of
Stockholm's loftiest views.

Tekniska is a sprawling wonderland of interactive science and technology exhibits. One of
its biggest drawcards is Cino4 (adult/child Skr80/40), Sweden's first '4D', multisensory
cinema. The 'Teknorama' is a vast room of kinetic experiments and stations designed to do
things like test your balance, flexibility and strength. In one corner is a dark and genuinely
scary mining exhibit. There's also a model railroad, a survey of inventions by women, and
a climate-change game.

The Museum of Ethnography stages evocative displays on various aspects of non-
European cultures, including dynamic temporary exhibitions and frequent live perform-
ances. Recent examples include a display about the cultural treasures of Afghanistan, Rus-
sian holiday traditions, and 'real-life' voodoo. If there's a dance or musical performance
scheduled, don't miss it. The cafe is a treat, with great music, imported sweets and bever-
ages, and authentic global dishes.
