Step 8: Adjust stacking order
Remember that each layer has its own stacking order. The drop shadow is stacked on
top of the original snowboarder art. This is a result of the duplication process. To fix
the stacking order, select Modify > Arrange > Send to Back. The drop shadow is now
underneath the snowboarder, completing the illusion of depth.
Select Control > Test Movie. Notice that the movie clip of the snowboarder animates
and that the shadow also mimics the movements. Save your file.
This exercise explored the possibility of using the Drop Shadow filter to simulate a
cast shadow from a light source. Typically drop shadows are used for buttons or text.
Experiment with these filters and tools. With a few simple steps you can simulate three-
dimensional space. As you can see with this finished example, Flash has the ability to
add movement to static images.
