Step 16: Select a fill color
Let's add soft shadows to the woman's shoulders. Select the Eyedropper tool from the
Tools palette. Make sure the fill color is also selected in the Tools palette. Move the cur-
sor over the blue shirt and click. You have just stored that blue color. Go to the Color
Mixer. Make sure you are using the HSB color settings. Decrease the brightness value
(B) from 60% to 45%. This creates a new fill color to paint with. The new, darker, blue
color will provide the surface shading.
Step 17: Create a new layer and adjust the stacking order
Click on Insert Layer button. Rename the layer to shirt shadow . Position the new layer
in between the shoulders and neck layers in the Timeline.
Step 18: Paint the surface shading
With the Brush tool selected from the Tools palette, move the cursor over the shoulder.
Click and drag to start painting the surface shading (Figure 2.54). When you are done
painting, release the mouse.
