Extent of flooding in 1997 along Deer Creek and adjacent parts of its alluvial fan. Some of the overflow
returned to the main channel at Hwy 99, the rest followed China Slough to flow directly into the Sacramento River.
Based on contemporary observations, high water marks documented shortly after the flood by the California
Department of Water Resources, Northern District, Red Bluff (unpublished data), and post-flood interviews with
residents.
