Creating Your First Post

Posting text, photos, quotes, links, chats, audio files, and videos
There are seven kinds of posts that you can create with Tumblr: text, photo, quote, link,
chat, audio, and video. Each post type has its own distinct form that you fill in to create a
new post. Alongside each form, you see a list of general posting options. These options
are the same regardless of post type, and you can fill them in on the fly each time you cre-
ate new post. In addition, many of the new post forms share a common formatting tool-
bar.
In this chapter, you find about all the general posting and formatting options, followed by
step-by-step instructions for creating each post type.
Exploring the General Posting and Format-
ting Options
For every new post on Tumblr, you have the opportunity to specify some general options
to enhance your posts. In addition, for posts that include text, you see the same row of
formatting buttons. Here is a brief overview of these general posting and formatting op-
tions.
Using the sidebar posting options
When you click one of the seven “new post” icons at the top of your Dashboard, the side-
bar posting options appear on the right side of the page, as shown in Figure 2-1.
