Widespread introduction of FDP in Bangladesh has required significant time. The
promotion of the technology consists of two key components that are designed to
address issues related to creating a supply of and demand for the briquettes. The first
is the production of a fertilizer briquette (Figure 3.12) by compacting commercially
available solid fertilizers using a small briquetting machine (Figure 3.13) designed
for the rigorous operating conditions sometimes experienced in developing coun-
tries. The machine is capable of producing up to 450 kg of 1-g to 3-g briquettes
per hour, with the briquette weight being determined by the crop and the desired
application rate. FDP briquettes are currently being produced at the village level by
