3.2.3 F ooD p roDuction anD n atural r esources
Proper and judicious use of mineral fertilizers is crucial to maintaining land and water
resources. These natural resources provide the foundation for sustainable agricultural
systems and increased food production. Unfortunately, natural resources are not evenly
distributed, nor are they currently managed in a sustainable manner. Most of the food
required by the world's future population will be produced on today's arable lands.
