6.1 Introduction
Load matching 1) refers to the degree of agreement or disagreement between
the on-site generation and building load profiles. Grid interaction , a closely
related topic, refers to the pattern of energy exchange between a building and
theutilitygrid,anditsimpactontheoverallloadofthegrid( Figure6.1 ).Both
issues are collectively designated by the acronym LMGI (Salom et al. , 2011).
This chapter provides an overview of these topics in the context of Net ZEBs.
Quantitative indices used to describe LMGI are presented. This chapter also
discusses design and control approaches that may be used to achieve LMGI
objectives, with particular emphasis on model-based predictive control
(MPC) in buildings.
