significantly differ before the intervention (phase 2) and after the
correction phase (phase 5). In the experimental group, however, a
clear increase in overlapping was observed for the correction phase
(Figure 3). 2
6.3 Discussion and remarks
The preliminary results obtained show that a system initiated
intervention can influence the state of the user.
Dialectal speech behavior
The reduced expression of dialectal linguistic behavior after the
intervention within the experimental group suggested a low arousal
regarding the emotional state (Grosjean, 2001; Dewaele, 2010).
Overlaps
Furthermore, statistically insignificant differences between the
experimental and control groups were found in terms of subject-
initiated overlaps of speech. Descriptively, a clear difference in the
results between the second and the fifth phases are shown, which
directly followed the intervention. This indicates a higher ego-
involvement of subjects within the experimental group.
Figure 3. Subjects initiated overlaps before (stage 2) and after (stage 5) the intervention/
no intervention.
2 The results of the analyses carried out were regarded as preliminary, since the scope
of the automatic detection of overlaps and informal language (dialectal linguistic
behavior) is still limited, but improving steadily.
