Web service). Choreography specifies how to communicate with a Web ser-
vice. The choreography component communicates with an invocation module
able to generate the required messages in SOAP format. A mediation handler
provides functionality to interpret WSMO mediator descriptions, including
running data mediation rules, invoking mediation services, and connecting
multiple mediators together. Following from the principle of openness men-
tioned above the orchestration, choreography, and mediation components are
themselves Semantic Web services.
10.4 Summary
In this chapter, we have presented the most relevant tools for enabling Seman-
tic Web services using WSMO. Despite the fact that the first implementation
efforts only started a little over a year ago, their intense interest has led to
a diversified landscape of tools. While the infrastructure components can be
regarded as quite stable higher-level components such as the mediation en-
gine of WSMX are still experiencing a period of great evolution. Their use in
various industrial and research projects is rapidly increasing their quality.
Furthermore, it should be noticed that most developments are being driven
as community efforts under open source licenses, which allows early adopters
to reuse and extend existing solutions. Given the dynamics of the subject
