in 2005, Orr and colleagues predicted that “high-latitude surface waters, already naturally
low in calcium and carbonate ion concentration, will be the first to have undersaturated
surface waters with respect to aragonite. Undersaturations for the calcite phase of calcium
carbonate are expected to follow 50-100 years later”. Unfortunately, it seems we are right
on course.
