However, the Arctic is warming much faster than almost anywhere else on the planet
- at about twice the global rate. It is a key point we will return to again and again in this
chapter. The difference between a temperature range that supports the survival of summer
ice (as the Kigoriak experienced in 1979) and one that does not (as seen today) is small.
