In-Depth Information
Mellow, more-rural Ry lies in the heart of the Lake District. It has a pretty duck-filled mar-
ina, where you'll find tourist boats to Himmelbjerget and nearby canoe hire. It's surroun-
ded by lovely landscapes and quaint villages perfect for exploring.
Activities
Ask at Ry's tourist office for leaflets detailing walking, cycling and boating options.

( 86 82 07 66; www.hjejlen.com ; one-way/return Dkr70/100)
Schedules three or four boats daily from Ry to Himmelbjerget, operating most days June
to August (and weekends in May and September). Boats leave Ry at 10.15am, 12.15pm
and 2.15pm (plus 4.15pm in July), and sail from Himmelbjerget one hour later. It's good to
book a day in advance.
Ry Kanofart
CANOEING
(
86 89 11 67; www.kanoferie.dk ; Kyhnsvej 20;
9am-6pm daily Jun-Aug, 9am-6pm Sat & Sun May
& Sep)
Ry Kanofart has canoes for hire, costing Dkr100/400 per hour/day. As with the operators
in Silkeborg, staff here can help you plan multiday river trips on the Gudenå and lakes.
Hiking & Cycling
One of the best trails from Ry is the two-hour, 7km walk west to Himmelbjerget. The start-
ing point for the hike is Munkedalsvej, which branches off Rodelundvej just south of the
Ry bridge. The signposted path leads to the Himmelbjerget boat dock before climbing the
hill to the tower. A nice option is to hike out and catch a boat back to Ry or on to Silke-
borg.
Cycling allows you to explore the low-key charms of the area. Ry Cykler ( 86 89 14
91; Parallelvej 9B; regular/mountain-bike rental per day Dkr75/200; 8.30am-5.30pm Mon-Fri,
9.30am-noon Sat) is 1.5km east of the train station, towards Skanderborg.
